The Constitution of the Sacred Liturgy promulgated by the Second Vatican Council, provided the Church with the Lectionary, the text used each day at the celebration of Mass. It is comprised of a three year cycle in which the Church unfolds the whole mystery of Christ, not only from his birth until his ascension, but also as reflected in the early Church in the days following Pentacost, and the expectation of the Lord's blessed return.
Studying the Bible is fascinating. You may have tried it. One approach some have used is to start reading it from cover to cover starting with the Book of Genesis and reading straight through. Chances are, if you've tried this approach you made it to the Book of Leviticus and gave up, wondering "what has this to do with my life today"?
The Bible is not always easy to read with understanding. It not only requires some attention and effort, and it may even require a little help. You may remember when Philip encountered an Ethiopian who was reading the scriptures, he asked him, "Do you understand what you are reading?" The Ethiopian looked up from the book of Isaiah and answered," How can I, unless someone instructs me?" (Acts 8:31).
Here in the Parish of the Assumption we have several Bible Study Sharing and Study groups. Perhaps one is the perfect fit for you to begin your own deeper understanding of Scripture, and how the Word of God is so important to your own life.

The homilies at Mass give us great insight into the meaning of Scripture and it's implications for our lives today, and yet the Scriptures contain so much more than can be shared in that one context. So many people have endeavored to Study the Bible.
